Children, Adolescents & Family Work

Growing up today presents many challenges, and the path to adulthood often has its bumps. For some, the transition is smooth, while for others, it can be more turbulent. I work with parents, carers, and young people to increase understanding around why things might be feeling difficult and provide the tools needed to navigate these challenges together.

As a Clinical Psychologist, I am trained in various therapeutic models to address mental health challenges. This allows for flexibility and creativity, ensuring that each young person’s interests and passions are brought to life in the therapeutic process.

Sessions will also factor in the development stage of the young person and the nature of their difficulties. I may recommend a combination of different formats for sessions including individual sessions with parents and young people and then sometimes combined family sessions. I also work solely with the parents particularly in cases where the young person may not want to attend therapy and parents wish to develop their understanding on how to improve their relationship with their child or resources to support their child who may be struggling with their mental health.

As young people are involved in multiple systems, I may also suggest that I collaborate with other professionals involved. This teamwork ensures the young person is supported across all environments, promoting the best possible therapeutic outcomes.

However, I do not currently work with young people presenting high levels of risk who would be better supported by a multidisciplinary team or crisis services.
